I wrote the following comment in response to comments about adults skulking around at teen events, and was asked to take it down, because of possible accusations about the laxity of the chaperones... liability and such. I am a bit discouraged about the state of teens, and am glad mine at least has a reasonably good head on her shoulders, despite being a PITA some of the time.
hmmm... I could not make the last few teen events, and cannot be there this time either as it is my postponed birthday party. You should know that I can be used as a mentoring resource if necessary. We allowed use of ALL the Voyagers rooms, with the sometimes exception of the Quiet Room, where parents could hang out if they desired. The back hall and back door were always off limits. And I would send chaperones in roughly every 15-20 minutes or so, just to make the rounds, make sure people were being safe, and behaving appropriately. Mind you, each chaperone does have their own idea of what is too much, but in the 3 years Susan and I were Co-Teen Coordinators, we never had any (major) issues. Susan was the keeper and procurer of chaperones, and we tried to have 1 for each 10-15 teens.
As Talis says, the tone of the Voyagers Teen Events has changed... I had my time there, oversaw some pretty good events, but time to move on.
